03 Nov Shaping West London’s future skills agenda
Between now and the end of the year, we are working with West London Business to gather crucial input from employers for the latest update of the Greater London Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP).
Alongside the new Inclusive Talent Strategy, the refreshed Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) for London will set out the skills that West London employers need, and challenge and support training providers to deliver them.
Councillor Stephen Cowan, Leader of LB Hammersmith & Fulham and Chair of the West London Economic Prosperity Board, says:
“West London is already a £70bn economy – but there is huge untapped potential for West London to be an even greater engine of growth for the UK. As my own council has set out in our local industrial strategy, elective institutions are crucial to ensuring both that private sector innovation and investment can thrive, and that local people and places benefit from this success.
Our education and training system is a prime example. Too often, publicly-funded skills provision does not align with employers’ real workforce needs. The Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP), which we are now updating, is part of our ongoing commitment in West London to make publicly funded skills provision more responsive — enabling employers and providers to co-invest in equipping local people with the skills your industry needs and helping them access high-value, well-paid jobs.
I urge West London’s entrepreneurs and businesses of every size to share their insight through this survey. Your voice will help shape the curriculum, address your skills shortages, and ultimately secure West London’s future prosperity.”
Our short video sets out why it is important, and how you can help. Employers in West London can take the survey here.
