Adults’ and Children’s Social Care

The West London programmes work together to commission services more effectively for children’s and adults’ social care. Our programmes focus on commissioning, data analytics, quality assurance, fee negotiation and providing creative data and tech solutions. These programmes are delivered by our Commissioning Alliance team.

For full information on the range of services that the Commissioning Alliance manages, please visit the Commissioning Alliance website, or contact the team directly via email.

Commissioning Alliance services

Because of our excellent track record of programme delivery, some of our programmes are delivered beyond West London under our ‘Commissioning Alliance’ branding. This includes:

Children’s Social Care

West London is home to over 2,000 children in care – 21% of London’s total. To meet their needs, WLA boroughs work together to secure high-quality, local placements at sustainable costs. Market failures and budget pressures continue to challenge individual boroughs, but through collective action, WLA is improving quality, shaping the market, and managing costs more effectively. This partnership approach helps ensure vulnerable children are placed close to home in settings that meet their needs, while also strengthening value for money and consistency across the region.

Adults’ Social Care

London has the highest rate in the UK of people aged 65+ in long-term care, and demand is rising as people live longer with more complex needs. WLA is addressing this challenge through our North West London partnerships. Boroughs are working together to manage costs, improve quality, and shape a sustainable care market.

Through shared data, joint commissioning, and collective purchasing, we’re driving better value and supporting a resilient, locally focused care system.

Governance

The Children’s and Adults’ programmes are overseen by the Directors of Children’s and Adult Social Care, who report directly to the Chief Executives of the West London boroughs.
