London’s Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP)

Across the country Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIP) are being developed to tackle the issues of skills shortages and gaps seen in the labour market.

The government has tasked Employer Representative Bodies with developing these plans, working closely with skills providers and intermediaries, such as local authorities. The idea is that the LSIP will set out a clear articulation of employers’ skills needs and the changes required locally to ensure post-16 technical education and skills provision is more responsive and flexible in meeting labour market needs. BusinessLDN are pulling together the pan-London report, and alongside West London Business, we have been working on the West London annex which will identify the specific challenges faced in our sub-region.

We undertook a significant stakeholder engagement exercise with local employers in January and February through sector-focussed roundtables and a West London Skills Summit that brought employers and skills providers together to discuss the issues that they are both facing, and how we might deliver some of the solutions.

It was great to hear from businesses and understand their perspective and the findings have now been pulled together into a set of emerging recommendations for each sector. This will inform the West London annex which will be published in June following sign-off by the Secretary of State for Education. We look forward to sharing the recommendations and next steps with you then.
