23 Mar Improving quality in the Adults Supported Living Market

The supported living market is made up of both regulated and unregulated provision, leading to varying degrees of quality within a saturated market and resulting in local authorities unable to resource consistent quality practices due to the oversupply of provision.

In response to this challenge the Commissioning Alliance, are working with London Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, and Harrow to develop a consistent standard through which to assess the quality of provision, with an accreditation scheme to address market concerns and improve the quality of commissioned services. The participating boroughs are working with us on a standard that addresses:

• Safeguarding
• Property
• Suitability of care
• Pricing
• Service Management

The first iteration of the standard has been developed and tested with a sample of contracted providers. The results of the pilot are dictating how we refine the standard and streamline the approach to delivery, ensuring a tool that will help drive up quality and introduce a structured and more consistent shared approach to quality assessments.
