Another Job Entry Targeted Support (JETS) success!

Our Job Entry Targeted Support scheme (JETS) has been helping West London residents find good, sustainable work through the pandemic. This case study demonstrates the range of support that is available for West London residents; not only in supporting those new to the job market with entry-level jobs, but for experienced candidates too. The programme is delivered by Shaw Trust and co-financed by European Social Fund (ESF).

O was referred by her Work Coach at the Hounslow Job Centre to the JETS programme. She had previously been employed by a Hotel as a Director of Sales & Marketing but the pandemic resulted in her being made redundant. She was very keen to get back into work and was actively looking for a role in project management/sales director, administration or business development.

She had great experience and skills but her CV needed a boost. Her Employment Advisor, Sukmani, booked her with one of the specialist partners, Salvation Army to have a professional CV made. O found the session with Salvation Army to be very useful so she agreed to attend few more sessions that covered: application forms, cover letter, transferrable skills, effective decision making, money management, hidden job market, interview techniques and hot jobs.

Shaw Trust’s Employer Account Manager, Sophie, had regular contact with O and helped her with live vacancies, CV and interview techniques.

O was also interested in self-employment so another referral was made to Salvation Army for one of their self-employment specific sessions.

O was open to learn new skills, to refresh existing ones and willing to widen her job goals and job search in order to secure employment. With the support from Shaw Trust and its specialist partners she secured sustainable employment for DWP as a work coach in May 2021.

She continues to be in contact with her Advisor from Shaw Trust and is very happy in her new role supporting unemployed people back into employment.

“Dear Sukmani and Sophie,
This is to say thank you very much for all your hard work helping me during the hard time I had when I lost my job and a sense of direction that Sophie and yourself provided.
I am very grateful to you and Sophie for your professionalism and attention. The JETS Contract has helped me a lot to just get motivated again and believe in myself and my skills. Thank you for your determination and not giving up when sometimes you had to call me every day to follow up and help me with my job applications to make sure I do my best and get fully prepared. I would definitely recommend the programme to anyone. I was impressed that you don’t just send the vacancies but that I have received support with everything starting with my CV (when Sophie went through it and gave me ideas and comments and even suggested the changes) to the actual interview preparation and a follow up.
Another thing that impressed me was that both of you have not just provided help with vacancies you offered to me but also provided the same support with the vacancies I have found myself. And even when I mentioned an idea of self-employment, I have been provided with a lot of useful information. The vacancies that were sent to me by Sophie and yourself were selected for me personally according to my skills, salary range and abilities. I think that your programme has offered me the best support I have experienced during the time of my unemployment and I will definitely recommend it to anyone who needs help!
Thank you so much and it has been a pleasure dealing with Sophie and yourself!”
