05 Mar West London Alliance welcomes next phase of West London Orbital plans

West London Alliance (WLA) is delighted to have worked with partners to agree a major funding deal that propels the West London Orbital into its next stage of development. The commitment of up to £6.65 million in funding from TfL, four West London boroughs, the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) and WLA marks a crucial step forward for the scheme, which promises to transform how people move around our part of the capital.

The proposed route will link Hendon and Hounslow by bringing under‑used freight lines into passenger use. The new London Overground connection will offer up to six trains an hour and ten new interchange opportunities, including four brand new stations. This will unlock smoother, quicker and more direct journeys between places like Brent Cross, Neasden, Harlesden, Old Oak Common, Acton, Brentford and Hounslow.

The benefits for West London that this scheme will unlock are significant. TfL’s plans suggest the Orbital could support more than 25,000 new homes and 11,500 new jobs, deliver around £300 million in the first decade of operation and encourage around 650,000 fewer car trips every year. This is exactly the kind of strategic project that unlocks talent, supports expanding business clusters, and helps residents reach new opportunities. It also backs wider regeneration priorities, supports cleaner air and offers a practical shift towards more sustainable travel choices.
